Our society does not have equality. From gender, health and justice inequalities to racism and opportunity all people deserve not just to survive but to thrive in our community. Reason is founded on the belief that we should be free to live our best lives without fear of discrimination.
Reason supports:
- an extension of racial and religious vilification laws to vilification based on sexuality, gender and disability
- pursuing gender parity in pay and board representation, and gender analysis in policy and laws
- strengthening powers of the Equal Opportunity Commission to investigate and require compliance
- strengthening the Victorian Charter of Rights and Responsibilities to protect the rights of Aboriginal Victorians and their rights to health, housing and education through a culturally safe and trauma-informed lens
- instilling legislation to create better access to reproductive health care for all Victorians, including those in regional Victoria
- ensuring access to support, information and legislation for people who are going through menopause
- greater access to public toilets and increased funding incentives for private business to open their toilets for the public and to repurpose their toilets for all access
- an investigation into the feasibility of making all toilets disabled toilets, as the state standard for all toilets in new businesses, schools and government buildings
- an increase in funding for the Northern School for Autism senior campus for capital works and infrastructure
- an increase in funding for public libraries to run activities for seniors who are newly retired and seeking friendship and connection
- reallocated funding to at-home services for seniors who want to stay in their homes until their death
- gender-affirming healthcare provision and accessibility in the public health system
- the removal of barriers to employment, healthcare, education and other services faced by the LGBTIQA+ community
- human rights and bodily integrity of people born with variations in sex characteristics
- safe and culturally appropriate care and policy in aged care services for LGBTQIA+ older people
- public funding for religious education, health, and welfare organisations only if they demonstrate non-discriminatory principles
- asylum seekers who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, or queer (LGBTIQA+) who seek asylum to be protected within Victoria
- more opportunities for funding to support development in the arts in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, deaf and disabled, multicultural and people from refugee backgrounds, and LGBTIQA+ artists, collectives, communities, and organisations
- an immediate nationwide ban of discredited and barbaric 'gay conversion' practices.
