The effects of climate change are having and will continue to have severe and destructive effects on Australians and humanity as a whole. The consequences of not acting are far greater than the costs of taking the action.

  • Reason endorses the principle of climate justice for all Australians.
  • Reason supports the investment in direct solar energy, wind energy, and ocean energy as replacements for fossil fuel energy systems. This can be done by:
    • the facilitation of energy access, particularly for rural areas
    • we can advance energy security goals by diversifying the portfolio of energy technologies and resources, and
    • improve social and economic development through potential employment opportunities.
    • Reason supports the funding of electric infrastructure, in Australia wide that supports renewable energy outlay, with costs augmented by a feed-in tariff system, where this is not applicable then quota policies can be effective and efficient.
  • Reason calls for the government to ensure incentives to reduce emissions in large industrial facilities to drive systemic change.
  • Reason believes the federal government should establish an Industrial Transformation Future Fund to support low- and zero-emissions industrial asset replacements from 2030. 
  • Reason believes the federal government must commit to putting in place the building blocks of large-scale industrial transformation by 2030.
  • Reason supports rapidly transitioning Australia to an electric economy, testing all options for reducing heavy vehicle and aviation emissions.
