How to vote for April Clarke for Northcote
Northern Metro's group voting ticket
Hi, I’m April Clarke, a proud Gunditjmara Kirrae Whurrung/Tjap Wurrung woman. I am honoured to be your Reason Party candidate for Northcote.
I am a mother to three sons, and a grandmother to a granddaughter and two grandsons. I have a partner and an old dog named Boss.
I have lived in the Northern suburbs all my life and spent most of the last 25 years of my working life in the Northcote area. I am a grassroots voice and have advocated for not only our area’s Aboriginal communities but all communities. I see myself as a change-maker.
I have worked in many areas advocating at all levels- local, State and National. I have worked in various areas of the Education sector, from schools to the Education Department to Aboriginal organisations advocating for families. This important work has made me aware of all sides of the issues and needs of our education systems.
Currently, I work with the not-for-profit sector organisation, Hands On Health Australia. This organisation is located right here in Northcote and provides allied health services to community members who may not otherwise have access to them. The health and wellbeing space is such an important issue for me. I believe that all Australians should have quality access to health and wellbeing services.
I proudly wear many hats to ensure that I am involved in all of the causes that I am passionate about and contributing to making a difference wherever possible. I don’t just sit back and observe, I actively get involved to ensure through my advocacy that the voices of the many are heard. As a proud Aboriginal woman, I always apply a cultural lens to the important issues that I am engaged in. This includes health and wellbeing, education, justice and the prison system, family/domestic violence, leadership, and environmental issues (to name a few!).
In my downtime, I enjoy making cultural resources for kindergartens and the wider community. I write children’s books about understanding Country, and I also make jewellery.
As your elected member for Northcote, I will stand not only for you but with you. It is time to make a stand, to be heard and make a change.
