Application to become a Voting Member of Reason Australia
Reason Australia has three categories of members:
1. Parliamentary Members: we want more!
2. Voting Members: Voting Members pay an annual membership fee of $100 a year. They have the right to vote at AGMs, and to stand for election to the Management Committee.
3. Supporting Members: this is free, but Supporting Members don’t have the right to vote at AGMs.
For more details about the rights and obligations of Members, read the Reason Australia constitution here.
How to apply to become a Voting Member
The Management Committee may, from time to time, invite Founding Supporter Members to become Voting Members. Founding Supporter Members are Supporting Members whose details have been successfully checked against the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) electoral roll.
If you’re a Founding Supporter Member, simply click the “Continue” button on the left and you’ll be asked to verify your details and then pay the annual fee of $100. You will be sent a receipt.
Is your membership fee tax deductible?
Once Reason Australia is registered as a Federal political party (expected around mid 2018), your membership fee will be tax deductible – see here for the relevant details from the Tax Office.
We will let you know as soon as our registration is confirmed, but until then your membership fee is not tax deductible.
Remember, you must be specifically invited by the Management Committee to become a Voting Member. This will normally happen once we’ve checked your details against the AEC roll and you’ve become a Founding Supporter Member.
There’s no obligation to take up the Committee’s invitation. You can remain a Founding Supporter Member and pay no annual fee. But for those who want to feel more involved, please consider! It’s $100 a year and you get to come to our AGMs (woohoo!)
